Science-led solutions to protect children’s health.

Science-Led Solutions

The Institute for Preventive Health (IPH) has been set up to support the solutions outlined in “Manufactured Chemicals and Children’s Health: The Need for New Law”, a seminal peer-reviewed paper providing a blueprint for policy makers, companies and investors on how to protect children’s health from toxic chemicals. The paper was written by some of the leading scientists, economists and legal experts in the U.S. and the EU and was published in the world’s leading medical journal, the New England Journal of Medicine.

The IPH supports organizations both in the U.S. and around the world, who work on creating science-led solutions to the global crisis of chemical toxicity that is causing widespread harm to the health of our children. These solutions include new laws, chemical footprinting, safer chemicals and policy reform.

Biomonitoring

IPH helps structure, support and fund large-scale biomonitoring of at-risk populations, to enable impact reporting on solutions that are implemented to reduce exposure to toxic chemicals. Biomonitoring programs we support include hair testing, food and textile testing and blood and breast milk analysis.

It is key to understand what the long-term exposure levels are of our children to specific toxic chemicals and mixtures of toxic chemicals, to be able to protect them from the chronic disease crisis that is facing us all.

Safety Studies

IPH helps structure, support and fund comprehensive safety studies on both single chemicals and mixtures of chemicals, at independent scientific institutions. The aims of these studies are to provide new and reliable information to global regulators and all other stakeholders.

IPH is supportive of studies such as the Global Glyphosate Study, which was launched by multiple scientific institutions, to help understand what harm to health is being caused by the world’s most used weedkiller.
